For Kids

This page is based on things to make for kids, such as fingerpaint and modelling dough.

Bakers Clay

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup salt
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Use as modelling dough and design! Bake your creations on 175°C until hard. Decorate with paints, glitter etc.

Uncooked Fingerpaint
  • 2 cups cornflour
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1/4 cup Lux Flakes
  • Small amount of boiling water
  • Food colouring
Mix cornflour with the cold water and whisk well. Slowly add the boiling water until the mixture starts to thicken. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth, thick and translucent. Gradually add the Lux Flakes and mix. Add a couple of drops of food colouring.

Bubble Mixture
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 3 Tbsp boiling water
  • 9 Tbsp liquid detergent
Stir sugar and water together until the water dissolves, then add the liquid detergent. Store for 3 days before using.

Play Dough
  • Food colouring
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • Hot water
Put flour and salt in a bowl, slowly add water and mix until mixture is  combined. Knead on a floured board until soft. Add a couple of drops of food colouring and knead until colour is throughout the dough. Add more flour if the dough is sticky. Store in an airtight container.
*Before adding the food colouring, split the dough into several portions and use different colours.

Salt Ceramic Dough
  • 1 1/2 cups salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup cornflour
Mix all ingredients in a pot and cook on low heat until solid. Knead straight away. Mould into desired creations and leave to harden for about 36 hours. Decorate once completely dried.
*If you have made a hanging decoration, put a hole in them BEFORE they harden.

Gloop
  • 2 cups cornflour
  • 1 cup cold water
Put cornflour into a bowl and add the water slowly. Stop adding water when the cornflour is thoroughly dampened, but not runny. Use it like fingerpaint or slime. Kids love drawing with their fingers in it.
